What is the difference between a real clue, a red herring and a misdirection?

On the Mystery board (new in version 1.9.22, in the Codex), each clue has a kind. A real clue points to the truth, and the solution must rest on these. A red herring points to an innocent suspect, and must be explained later. A misdirection makes the reader look the wrong way at the right moment. For each one you write what it is ("Mud on the left boot only"), its chapter, which suspect it points to, how it is hidden (in plain sight, in a line of dialogue, an object, something missing, in the background, a behaviour), the chapter where it is explained and who notices it. The buttons under the list add one of each kind.
