The table of contents of my Word (DOCX) export shows page 1 for every chapter. How do I fix it?

A Word file cannot carry its page numbers: they are worked out by the program that opens it. Microsoft Word fills them in when it offers to update the fields as the file opens; click Yes (or select all and press F9). Google Docs, Google Drive's preview and some other programs do not, and they used to show 1 for every entry. From version 1.9.23, the DOCX contents page lists the chapters as links, without page numbers, until Word fills them in, so it reads correctly everywhere.
