My book mixes ‘single’ quotes, “double” quotes and straight quotes from chapter to chapter. How do I make them the same?
The AI writes each chapter on its own, so a book can end up with dialogue in ‘single’ quotes in most chapters, “double” quotes in a few and straight " or ' quotes in others. From version 1.9.22, open the book's page and, in the Export card, find "Same quotation marks throughout". BookyAI tells you there when your chapters mix quotation marks, and which style it would use. Tick it, and every export (PDF, Word, EPUB, AZW3, HTML, Markdown) gives the whole book the style most of your chapters use: curly quotes everywhere, a chapter written in the other style turned round together with its quotes inside quotes, and apostrophes (don’t, the boys’ books, the ’90s) kept as apostrophes. Code, web addresses and links are left alone. Your chapter files are not changed, so you can untick it at any time. When the chapters are split evenly, English (UK) books get ‘single’ quotes and other English books “double” ones. In other languages, straight quotes become the language's own marks, such as „…“ in German, „…” in Romanian or «…» in French.
