How does difficulty work?

Choose the level of the first puzzle and of the last puzzle (Easy, Medium, Hard, Expert). The book rises gently between them. Easy: words run right and down only. Medium: diagonals too. Hard: all eight directions, backwards words and shared letters. Expert: more of both.
